The second match up against the @SPTapRoom did not go the way we had hoped coming off a great win the night before. From what I was able to gather from everyone, the bats just weren't there--but we'll undoubtedly get another stab at the SPTR during the playoffs. It was great to have Cicco back on the field, and a big thanks to Julie for filling in on short notice! All in all, tough loss 5-1, but again, we'll get back at them down the road.
Although I tried everything I could to get to the game, which included running through Union Station in Wash. DC, running through 30th Street Station, making some illegal turns, and without a doubt speeding down 34th street towards Girard to get to Dairy 2.

Spence!? Spence?! Has anyone seen Spence?! As blogs go, who could possibly keep up with Mr. Ryan Whitmarsh, nevertheless, it was great to see him on Monday as he spent his off day, along with Mr. Nick Ventrola at Edgeley 4 to watch the Collar take on Pen & Pencil in a great match up. Coming into the week after a big win against The Zoo last week, we wanted to keep the momentum moving in the right direction. Well that momentum got a rude awakening early on against the Pens and Pencils after they took an early 8-1 lead after the top of the 3rd, but the funny thing about momentum, it can shift at any moment--and that moment came with 2 outs in the bottom of the 3rd. Donny Money got on base, and Mikey A, and Dougie followed up with a few clutch hits as well. Then yours truly got a hold of one towards right center and circled them all. But that wasn't the end, Spence and Mikey D made it across the plate as well and the Collar put up a 6 spot to trail by 1 after 3. After a quick top of the 4th, the Collar kept the pressure on, and added 6 more runs to take a 13-8 lead and never looked back as they went on to a 17-9 victory. Collar had some great plays in the field, especially to those in the outfield.. Donny, Robbie, Mikey A.B.T., and Adam... they were all over the place. One scary moment came early in the game when Adam broke up a potential double play, which was well documented on P&P's blog... http://penpencilsoftball2011.blogspot.com/ A Happy Birthday shoutout to Elia! A great Collar win, followed by a great birthday celebration back at THE Collar!! Again, thanks to Whitmarsh for writing our pseudo blog, and for coming out to the game and making sure I was safe from the thunder and lightning. This is your new blog post. Click here and start typing, or drag in elements from the top bar. Mother Nature was threatening all day, weathermen across Philly gave us no chance, we're not talkin' bout 'Practice', we're talkin' 'bout Game 6 vs. The Zoo. Kudos to the Zoo manager for getting to the field almost an hour before game time to channel out the water around home plate... or was that E?! I was at Dairy 4, which was puddles galore, watching a bunch of blue shirts on Dairy 2, not knowing they were playing grounds crew. Well done nonetheless. Ohio and Roxi were running late (more on Roxi later), but we got started just after 6:30... at about 6:38, the Collar had jumped out to a smooth 5-0 lead in the top half of the 1st. And that's all that was needed in this one. The Zoo battled back in the bottom of the 1st with a pair of runs after an RBI double that Robbie S won't live down for a couple weeks... but we'll leave it at that, it was a solid hit, no doubt about it. Big E went on to capture yet another complete game victory. He got another K, but the Lowry's Seasoning Play of the Game came in the bottom of the 5th when a routine fly ball pulled E off the mound, thumped his skull, then dropped just in front of Demo... priceless. Solid, solid defense all around tonight, (with the exception of the Lowry's PoTG of course). Case in point, Donny Money in left field. One would have argued that a gazelle had left the Zoo when he tracked down a fly ball in foul territory in the bottom of the 3rd. The 1st base coach said it was dropping, but the only thing that dropped was the Franklin to 4-2 after their tough loss to ART. ART followed up their victory at the Collar with a few white-russians... but wouldn't you if you were 6-0?! ..... No?! Me neither... but we'll leave it at that. Adam led off the top of the 6th with a hit and ended up scoring to add a couple more runs for the Collar on their way to a 12-2 victory and a 4-2 record on the season. Thanks to the self-proclaimed lack of hitting by Mr. Nick Ventrola, the Franklin dropped to 4-2 as well to sit with the Collar at 2nd place heading into late May. After a few attempts at getting the Collar Blog off the ground for the 2011 season with Blogspot.com, I had about enough with their ridiculous glitches and bugs, and Ryan Whitmarsh's blogspot antics.. so... here it is, on weebly.com, a much more friendly site that has more functionality than a Whitmarsh at-bat. We'll be here all season, or at least from Game 6 on, cracking jokes, breaking balls, and most certainly, drinking beers. Go Collar!
