As the Collar's season hung in the balance during the late innings of it's playoff appearance agaisnt the Tap Room, win or lose, this team had a whole lot to be thankful for. Personally, I must first thank Adam Siebert of the Franklin for introducing me to the likes of Phyllis, Laniece, Carolyn, Whitmarsh, Management, and many others through PSSC ball last year. I'm grateful for the opportunity to join the Collar, and having finished my first season of CCSL, I think many of us would be hardpressed to find a better league to be a part of in the Philadelphia area. What other leagues have Pulitzer prize winning blogs, syntactical errors, pseudo blogs, and above all Bob Ford's bunting to beautify and bring an enhanced playoff atmosphere to Edgeley 8.
Getting back to the theme of thanks in defeat, I know many of us are thankful for El Coloch's LPR, personally I've never had any, no offense Big E, but from I've heard, it is also something to be thankful for.
Also in defeat, I am thankful for the incredibly sad looks Benson had on his face during the 1st inning when we jumped out to a 6-0 lead. But we knew the Tap Room would fight back, they're a solid ball club--showed it all season, and undoubtedly showed why when they came back with 5 runs to answer in the bottom half of the 1st. That first inning really personified our season when I look back, big innings followed by innings of quiet bats except of course that epic win over the Zoo.
Strong defense from both clubs panned out over the middle innings until SPTR was able to capitalize on a 2 out, 3 run bomb to take an 8-6 lead. After tacking on a couple more runs to go to 10-6, I was extremely thankful for the meatball Benson lobbed up in the top of the 6th, with a splash of parmasean I served that beauty right down the left field line to cut the deficit to 2. After solid defense in the bottom of the 6th, the Collar knew what it needed to do, 2 runs to tie and extend the ball game. And again, I was thankful to see those really sad looks on Benson's face when a 2 out rally was in full swing, but ultimately came up short on a great play Sir Benson, snaring Robbie's hard hit groundball straight through the box, a flip to first, and that was it, a season that started out with great expectations and didn't let up, was over.
But again, even in defeat, there's a whole lot to be thankful for. With a lot of new faces, everyone came together right from Game 1 against the Franklin and never looked back. So there you have it, best of luck to the SPTR and the Franklin as they square off for the 2011 CCSL Title.
